Mark Romness, MD, an associate professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery with a secondary appointment in the Department of Pediatrics, received the Virginia Orthopaedic Society’s Career Award at their annual meeting in May.

Dr. Romness focuses on the treatment of children with musculoskeletal problems and the effectiveness of those treatments. His approach to treating patients is family-centered, providing a personalized and professional approach to each patient’s problem. His clinical and academic expertise includes treating children with special needs including cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and various other genetic syndromes.

Within the Department of Orthopaedics, Dr. Romness serves as division head of pediatrics, the medical student clinical supervisor, and is a member of the Resident Advocacy Committee. Additionally, he has served on the Board of Directors for the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine and is a past president of the Virginia Orthopaedic Society. He continues to serve on the board in his second term as an AAOS Councilor. Dr. Romness is also extremely active in shaping policy and advocating for orthopedic surgeons here in Virginia as well as across the U.S.
