
Kelly Shaffer, PhD
Kelly Shaffer, PhD, an associate professor in the UVA Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences and Center for Behavioral Health and Technology, has been appointed chair-elect for the Scientific Network on the Study of Female Sexual Health and Cancer. Dr. Shaffer has been a member of the Board of Directors and most recently served as secretary. Her term as chair-elect runs through December 2026, after which she will serve as chair starting January 2027.
As a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in psychooncology, Dr. Shaffer’s research is to modernize and expand psychosocial care delivery to medically ill individuals and their families through scalable and effective technology-based interventions. She leads a national clinical trial to identify a fully-automated, Internet-delivered intervention to address symptoms of sexual distress and dysfunction among breast cancer survivors.
The Scientific Network on Female Sexual Health and Cancer is a global interdisciplinary network of clinicians, researchers and healthcare professionals who work to promote sexual well-being in women and girls affected by cancer by advancing evidence-based education and practice.
