Karen Rheuban, MD, Receives Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association Meritorious Service Award

Congratulations to Karen Rheuban, Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association Meritorious Service Award winner.The Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association (VHHA) named Karen Rheuban, MD, a professor of pediatrics and co-founder and director of the UVA Center for Telehealth, as the recipient of the VHHA Meritorious Service Award in 2024. Dr. Rheuban was presented the award by Wendy Horton, PharmD, the chief executive officer for UVA Health, at an awards luncheon on Nov. 7 at the Omni Homestead Resort, in Hot Springs, VA.

The VHHA Meritorious Service Award honors a person, other than a CEO, affiliated with a VHHA member institution, who has a history of making significant contributions to healthcare, on the state and local level, through a commitment to service and leadership. Dr. Rheuban was recognized for her extraordinary impact on healthcare, not just in Charlottesville, but across the nation. Her pioneering work in telemedicine and her unwavering commitment to patient care have transformed how UVA Health serves our communities. Dr. Rheuban truly exemplifies the spirit of the Meritorious Service Award, and we are grateful for the path she has paved for the future of healthcare at UVA Health and beyond.
