On April 14, John Fritz Angle, MD, professor in the Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging, was awarded the first-ever Dr. Barry T. Katzen Master Clinician Award during the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) Annual Scientific Meeting.
According to the society, this award honors an interventional radiologist who has created demonstrable impact in their institution and who exemplifies dedication to clinical practice, patient care, diligence in their work, and continuous improvement within the field.
Dr. Angle is a longtime faculty member of UVA Radiology and the director for the Division of Vascular and Interventional Radiology. He’s been a member of the SIR since 1993 and currently serves as the society’s president of the Association of Chiefs in Interventional Radiology.
During the ceremony, Dr. Angle was presented the award by Barry T. Katzen, MD, for whom the distinction is named. Dr. Katzen pioneered clinical practice for IR in 1976 and is a vocal champion for the clinical advancement of IR, according to the SIR.
