Faculty Elected to Serve in National Leadership Positions Advancing Patient Care

School of Medicine faculty have been elected to serve in national leadership positions that advance our understanding of treatments for obesity, evidence-based emergency care and safety science, and interventional radiology.

Krukowski

The Society of Behavioral Medicine has chosen Becca Krukowski, PhD, professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences and member of the UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center, as their representative to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Roundtable on Obesity Solutions. The 45-member Roundtable is comprised of leaders with the lived experience of obesity, leaders in the pharmaceutical industry and food industry, as well as advocacy, policy, government, professional societies, non-profits, public health, health care, philanthropy, and academia. The Roundtable fosters an ongoing dialogue about critical and emerging policy and research issues to accelerate and sustain progress in obesity prevention, management, and treatment.


Margaret Sande

Margaret K. Sande, MD, associate professor of emergency medicine and biomedical engineering and patient safety officer at UVA Health, has been elected as a member of the American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council. Dr. Sande’s selection to this distinguished panel of national and international experts reflects her deep commitment to advancing evidence-based emergency care and safety science. The American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council is a panel of leading medical, scientific, aquatics, and academic professionals who ensure that American Red Cross programs are founded in the latest and most rigorous scientific research.


Amy Taylor

In April, Amy Taylor, MD, associate professor in the Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging, Division of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, will serve as secretary for the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) Foundation. She has been an active member of SIR for many years, and is currently the development division chair for the foundation. This role is the first step in a four-year, successive term structure for the SIR Foundation’s executive leadership. After her one-year term as secretary, Dr. Taylor is slated to serve as vice chair, chair, and immediate past chair of the foundation in the coming years.
