
B. Cameron Webb, MD, JD
On January 5, Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger announced the individuals she has selected to serve in senior staff positions for her upcoming term. Among the appointees is B. Cameron Webb, MD, JD, who will serve as the Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Health, effective January 17, 2026.
“I am truly humbled by the opportunity to serve as Virginia’s next Commissioner of Health. This is a critical juncture for public health across our nation, and I am committed to working tirelessly to advance public health here in the Commonwealth,” said Dr. Webb, Assistant professor of Medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, with courtesy appointments in the Department of Public Health Sciences and the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy.
Since joining the faculty in 2017, Dr. Webb has launched the Health Equity, Law and Policy Research Lab, served as the Director of Health Policy and Equity in the Department of Public Health Sciences, and led the medical school’s health policy education curriculum.
Dr. Webb earned his undergraduate degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Virginia in 2005, followed by a medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine and a law degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. As a hospitalist and longtime advocate for equity in healthcare, Dr. Webb has dedicated his career to helping others and improving care and outcomes for underserved communities. He previously served as a White House Fellow in the Obama and first Trump administrations, and later served in the Biden administration as a Senior Advisor to the White House COVID Response.
