The School of Medicine invites all faculty, staff, trainees, and students to our annual State of the School Address on Sept. 26 at 5 p.m. in the Claude Moore Medical Education Building Learning Studio. While we hope faculty and staff can attend the address in person, a livestream link is available.
During the 2023-24 academic year, we have made great progress towards achieving our mission to transform health and inspire hope for all Virginians and beyond. Our four mission pillars — patient care, education, research, and community engagement — continue to be the foundation for our daily work as we aim to be leaders in providing high-quality, patient-centered care for the communities we serve.
The State of the School Address will touch on all mission areas:
- Clinical Care — Highlights include Newsweek ranking the University Medical Center as the No. 1 hospital in Virginia and among the world’s top 250. We have have expanded our ambulatory clinic network across the region and have been recognized with WebMD Patient Choice and Medscape Physician Choice awards.
- Education — Our distinguished educational programs continue to attract highly accomplished medical, graduate, and master’s students. The graduate medical education program (GME), which includes more than 800 residents and fellows in the 84 ACGME-accredited specialties, received zero citations and zero areas for improvements in last year’s re-accreditation.
- Research — We have many talented and dedicated researchers who have expanded their research portfolios, resulting in opportunities for even more breakthrough discoveries that lead to innovative care. The Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research reports that the UVA School of Medicine has risen to 19th among all public Schools of Medicine. We are also excited about the opening of our full-service Clinical Trials Unit.
- Community — Compassionate service in our larger community through medical outreach programs and philanthropy has been a priority. Internally, we’ve nurtured the development of our team by launching the UVA Health Leadership Institute as a way to grow leaders and support our goal to be a best place to work.
We look forward to seeing you at the State of the School Address as we expand on these points and share more about the work we are doing to achieve One Future Together | Health & Hope for All.
