Dean Kibbe and Barry Collins, Executive Director of the UVA Medical Alumni Association
The Class of 2025 will soon join the ranks of more than 15,000 alumni of the School of Medicine, with many opportunities to engage and reconnect ahead of them. For example, former trainees of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery came back to Charlottesville last month for a weekend of activities. And last week, the MD Classes of 1960, 1965, 1970, 1975, 1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2005 celebrated milestone reunions. You can read more about these events in the alumni section of this week’s newsletter.
University alumni contribute significantly to the institution and the broader community through various means, including financial support, mentorship, career guidance, and serving as brand ambassadors. They also provide valuable feedback, insights, and networks that enhance the university’s programs and reputation.
Last weekend, I was the very proud recipient of the 2025 Professional Achievement Award from the University of Chicago Alumni Board. Having graduated with my Bachelor’s and Doctor of Medicine degrees from UChicago, I can attest to the benefits of staying connected with your alma mater. This includes networking, sharing expertise across disciplines, supporting one another as colleagues and friends, and supporting the next generation of your alma mater.
The UVA Medical Alumni Association brings people together—fostering goodwill, fellowship, and collaboration. Established in 1949, it is an independent organization dedicated to serving the School of Medicine, governed by a board of directors. I encourage you to take a moment to learn about the UVA Medical Alumni Association and ways that you can get involved to support the next generation of physicians, scientists, and healthcare leaders.
With gratitude,
Melina Kibbe, MD
