On June 18, School of Medicine faculty were invited to a special Faculty Forum hosted by Mitch Rosner, MD, Interim Executive Vice President for Health Affairs. This session was hosted as part of an aim to increase transparency, engagement and dialogue around health system strategy.
The discussion spotlighted the purpose, progress, and opportunities specific to UVA Health’s integration with its community hospitals — UVA Community Health (UVACH). In addition to Dr. Rosner, speakers including UVA Health Chief Strategy Officer, Jason Lineen, Chief Administrative Officer, Mary Frances Southerland, CEO of UVA Community Health Erik Shannon, Senior Advisor to the EVP of Health Affairs Chad Hoyt, MD, Chair of Radiology and Medical Imaging Colin Derdeyn, MD, and Chief of Breast Imaging Tim Rooney, MD, shared updates on how integration is strengthening our mission, expanding access to specialty care, and improving the patient experience.
Key highlights:
- Why UVA Health expanded: Mission alignment, improved care access, and health system sustainability.
- What’s changed: Epic integration, shared services, specialty recruitment, and measurable quality gains.
- Where we’re headed: Growing community-based specialty care, improving referral pathways, and deepening system-wide consistency, always with the patient at the center.
This session helps understand where we’ve been, where we’re going, and how faculty are helping shape the future of UVA Community Health integration.
