\u2022 Brain Somatic Mosaicism Network Outlines Research Agenda for Exploring Genetic Diversity in Neurons<\/a><\/p>\n

\n

A paper published April 27 in Science by a group founded two years ago\u2014The Brain Somatic Mosaicism Network (BSMN)\u2014outlines a research agenda for using new technologies to explore the genetic diversity found in neurons, and to investigate what links, if any, tie such mutations to a variety of neurological conditions.<\/p>\n

Mike McConnell<\/a>, PhD, was the lead author on the paper. He stated that around 10,000 sequencing sets will be generated and made available to the scientific community.<\/p>\n

McConnell is an assistant professor in the UVA School of Medicine’s Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Shah receives Young Physician Award<\/a><\/p>\n

Neeral Shah<\/a>, MD, was awarded the 2017 Young Physician Award from the Virginia Chapter of the American College of Physicians. Shah received this award for his work with medical students, internal medicine residents, and GI fellows.<\/p>\n

Shah is an associate professor in the UVA School of Medicine’s Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Department of Medicine.
