\nDo people understand your research when you talk about it? You\u2019re an expert researcher; are you also an expert communicator? Have you experienced the glazed eye response from congressional panels, conference attendees, funding organizations, or students? If so, perhaps you could use a communication update.<\/p>\n
Join us for the second offering of UVA\u2019s \u201cSpeaking of Research\u201d communication workshop. You will learn straightforward techniques to communicate your research to any audience. Sessions will allow you to practice speaking about your research in an engaged and supportive environment. Attendees at our first session agreed: \u201cAll research faculty should take this workshop!!!\u201d<\/p>\n
The workshop will include:
\n\u2022 Small group activities
\n\u2022 Short, in-session exercises to help assess, speak to and motivate non-specialist audiences
\n\u2022 Small group coaching feedback sessions on your current three-minute research pitch
\n\u2022 Key concepts and tools you can use to communicate your research more effectively to multiple audiences<\/p>\n
Workshop sessions are designed to help you:
\n\u2022 Fine tune your audience analysis skills
\n\u2022 Minimize jargon and maximize message impact
\n\u2022 Design messages audiences will hear, understand and act upon
\n\u2022 Practice, practice, practice\u2014with session coaches and inter-\/intra-disciplinary peers<\/p>\n
