\u2022 Bold UVA Research Could End Lung Shortages, Save Lives of Recipients
\nResearchers at the University of Virginia School of Medicine have received more than $8.6 million in federal grants to support efforts that could dramatically increase the number of lungs available for transplant \u2013 and then save the lives of the people who receive them.<\/p>\n

The research includes work being done by the following investigators and their colleagues at UVA School of Medicine:
\n– Irving Kron, MD, Chair, Department of Surgery; Professor of Surgery
\n– Victor Laubach, PhD, Professor of Surgery; Professor of Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics
\n– Christine Lau, MD, Associate Professor of Surgery
\n– Sasha Krupnick, MD, Associate Professor of Surgery<\/p>\n

\u2022 “Best Children’s Hospitals” Rankings Feature Four UVA Children’s Hospital Specialties<\/p>\n

Four specialties at University of Virginia Children’s Hospital are ranked among the top 50 nationally in the 2017-2018 \u201cBest Children\u2019s Hospitals\u201d guide from U.S. News & World Report.<\/p>\n

The four ranked specialties are:
\n\u2022 Neonatology: 30th
\n\u2022 Diabetes and endocrinology: 34th
\n\u2022 Orthopedics: tied for 41st
\n\u2022 Cardiology and heart surgery: 44th<\/p>\n

\u201cThese national awards reflect how hard the entire team here at UVA Children\u2019s Hospital works to provide the best care for all of our patients and their families,\u201d said James Nataro, MD, Physician-in-Chief at UVA Children\u2019s Hospital and Professor of Pediatrics at UVA School of Medicine.<\/p>\n
