The Theme for World AIDS Day, Dec. 1, was “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response,” calling for sustained political leadership, international cooperation, and human-rights-centered approaches to end AIDS by 2030. World Health Organization reports that in 2024, an estimated 40.8 million people globally were living with HIV, an estimated 1.3 million people acquired HIV, and approximately 630,000 people died from HIV‑related causes. UVA Health Office of Community Engagement and Health Outcomes and UVA School of Medicine Office of Medical Sciences Outreach is raising awareness, providing educational resources, and promoting community stories.
