Faculty Description/Learning Objective
By the conclusion of this learning activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe the diagnostic criteria approach for common psychiatric disorders, including how these criteria do not always differentiate between clinical symptoms and eccentric, non-pathological behaviors
- Describe non-ordinary experiences that patients may report, including spontaneous and induced experiences such as near-death experiences, after death communications, etc.
- Describe how to approach a patient who is reporting non-ordinary experiences in order to optimize understanding and healing
