The UVA Department of Surgery is proud to announce that Sandra Kabagambe, MD, has secured approval from both the ACGME and the American Board of Surgery for an innovative new educational offering. The Global Surgery Track, developed in collaboration with the University of Rwanda in Kigali, will offer UVA general surgery residents a unique opportunity to engage in global health education and practice.
UVA Surgery joins other departments in the School of Medicine in offering a specialized Global Health Leadership Track, designed to prepare residents to address healthcare challenges in low-resource settings. Participants will benefit from a comprehensive curriculum, including a variety of global health courses such as a two-week intensive in January focused on tropical medicine, global health policy, and practice. Additionally, the track features a monthly Global Health Journal Club, international clinical rotations, and predeparture workshops to ensure the residents are well-prepared for their global work. Stay tuned for more details as this program gets underway.
