Vignesh Senthilkumar
At the 2025 Medical Society of Virginia (MSV) Annual Meeting in Norfolk, VA, Vignesh Senthilkumar, an MD-PhD student in the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, was officially appointed to the MSV Board of Directors. First elected by the medical student section in the spring, Senthilkumar was confirmed by both the Board of Directors and the MSV House of Delegates in the past month.
Senthilkumar, who is currently studying B cell autoimmunity under the mentorship of Justin Taylor, PhD, in the Department of Medicine, has been an active member of the MSV. He previously served in multiple leadership roles within the MSV Medical Student Section, including legislative vice chair and student representative to the MSV Advocacy Committee.
In his new role on the Board of Directors, Senthilkumar will represent the perspectives of Virginia’s medical trainees and help shape organizational priorities affecting both current and future physicians. His confirmation reflects MSV’s commitment to fostering early-career leadership and ensuring that medical students have a voice in statewide healthcare policy discussions. He will serve as an associate director for one year before becoming a full director the following year.
The 2025 MSV Annual Meeting brought together hundreds of physicians, residents, and students from across the state. The event also celebrated the inauguration of Mark D. Townsend, MD, as the new MSV President and showcased the leadership and scholarship of UVA medical students, featuring over 30 attendees, 15 student poster presentations, and numerous student-authored resolutions.
Senthilkumar’s appointment underscores the University of Virginia’s strong tradition of cultivating physician-leaders dedicated to advancing medicine, science, and patient care in Virginia and beyond.
