Class of 2026 Honors Their Patient Teachers During Gratitude Celebration

April 1, 2026 by jta6n@virginia.edu

Honoring patient teachers with a song.On March 26, the School of Medicine Class of 2026 welcomed their patient teachers to this year’s Patient Student Partnership Gratitude Celebration. In the Patient Student Partnership (PSP) course, students follow a patient experiencing chronic illness for their four years of medical school to experience healthcare from a patient’s perspective and provide context for the knowledge and skills they are learning throughout the curriculum. Each year, this celebration serves as a way for students and faculty to express gratitude to the patients and to celebrate the accomplishments of the graduating class.

During this hybrid event, students shared reflections on their PSP experiences through written thank you notes and speeches from members of the graduating class. The Arrhythmics, a medical student vocal music group, provided an entertaining performance.

The PSP leadership team thanks the patients for their educational contributions, the students who contributed to this event, and the many faculty and staff who support the program through patient referrals and educating our students.

The program simply could not exist with patients. If you are a clinician and are interested in discussing involvement in the program or know someone who would be interested in being involved, please reach out to the program leadership at medpsp@uvahealth.org.
