The Department of Medicine and Division of Nephrology hosted an amazing meeting of undergraduate students from around the country who attended the annual National Institutes of Health Kidney, Urologic, and Hematology Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium held at UVA. The meeting began in the Rotunda library followed by two days of meetings held in Alumni Hall. Nearly 200 participants, including 175 students, participated. Keynote speakers included Griffin Rodgers, MD, the director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, and Vivian Pinn, MD.
Students presented posters, interacted with luminary faculty from across the country and were given mentorship in developing careers in science and medicine. UVA is taking the lead in supporting young students, especially those from diverse backgrounds, in exploring careers in biomedical science.
Special thanks to Rahul Sharma, PhD, Mark Okusa, MD, and Lena Garrison who did a superb job organizing and hosting the meeting.
