March 10, 2020 by dld5dt@virginia.edu

Purpose:

Conquer Cancer, the ASCO Foundation, and Rising Tide Foundation for Clinical Cancer Research (RTFCCR) have partnered to establish the Conquer Cancer – Rising Tide Foundation for Clinical Cancer Research Career Pathway Grants in Symptom Management to support research in symptom management and build the next generation of clinical researchers in this field.

Background:

Up to six grants will be awarded in 2020: three pairs of grants will go to grant recipients in North America, and three pairs of grants to grant recipients in Europe. Each grant pair includes annual funding for the young physician scientist and annual funding for a mentor. Each grant may be awarded for a maximum term of up to four years.

Support for Grant Recipient: In the first year, each grant recipient will receive funding of $100,000 through their academic institution as they complete their subspecialty training. Contingent upon approval by Conquer Cancer and RTFCCR, grant recipients may continue to receive funding of $100,000 each year for the next three years to support their research during their early career years as independent faculty.

Support for Mentor: In the first year, each mentor will receive $15,000 as part of the grant to provide support and “protected time” to mentor clinician-scientists at an early career stage in translational, and/or patient-oriented cancer symptom management-focused research. Funding of $15,000 for each mentor for each succeeding year is contingent upon approval by Conquer Cancer and RTFCCR.
