VHEOC RFP 025 – Curriculum development for opioid and other substance use clients

Purpose

The Rockbridge Area CSB is seeking an academic partner to work with opioid and other substance users in recovery and to develop leadership techniques for use in group recovery settings. The goal of the intervention is to improve self-esteem, communication skills, and the capacity for leadership to better lead themselves, their peers, their families, their communities, their local government.

Specific services/activities requested include a written curriculum and facilitator’s manual, and recommendations for implementation in group recovery setting. A module to be taught 3 times weekly for 4 weeks, (12 consecutive sessions, 1-2 hours each, that can be adapted to 6 sessions). Photos or illustrations in facilitator’s manual of concepts, techniques, activities, exercises to be led by group moderator to enhance reflection on alternative leadership styles, (non-aggressive). In addition, an accompanying “user manual” with worksheets, educational reading and fill-in-the-blank participant question/answer format. One-on-one training, printed materials, phone consultation and electronic correspondence with group moderator(s) required.

Background 

VHEOC is a collaboration of five Virginia public universities (George Mason University, Old Dominion University, University of Virginia, Virginia State University and Virginia Tech) working together to support local Community Services Boards (CSBs) to prevent and treat opioid and other substance use disorders with cutting edge academic resources.
