Department of Defense – Military Burn Research Program (MBRP)

This e-mail is to notify the research community of the recently released Fiscal Year 2019 (FY19) funding opportunities for the Department of Defense (DoD) Military Burn Research Program (MBRP) being managed by the office of Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP).  Award programs this year are:

Idea Development Award

  • Independent investigators at all academic levels (or equivalent) may be named as PI in the
    application.
  • Supports highly impactful and military relevant research in the field of burn wound care
  • Inclusion of preliminary and/or published data relevant to the proposed research is required
  • Research Strategy and Feasibility are important review criteria.
  • Clinical trials are not allowed.
  • Pre-application is required; application submission is by invitation only.
  • Maximum funding of $500,000 for total costs (direct costs plus indirect costs) over a period of 3 years

Clinical Translational Research Award

  • Independent investigators at all academic levels (or equivalent) may be named as PI in the
    application.
  • Supports clinical research projects that are likely to have a major impact on therapy by applying promising and well-founded laboratory, preclinical, or clinical research findings to the
    care of the burn-injured patient.
  • The proposed study must include clinical research, and may include initial proof-of-concept trials, studies involving use of human anatomical substances, observational studies, and/or involve some retrospective data analysis.
  • Preliminary data is required.
  • Animal research is not allowed.
  • Pre-application is required; application submission is by invitation only.
  • Maximum funding of $1.55 million for total costs (direct costs plus indirect costs) over a period of 4 years

  • Pre-Applications:  April 17, 2019, 5:00 p.m. Eastern time (ET)
  • Invited applications:  July 10, 2019, 11:59 p.m. ET

All CDMRP funding opportunities, both recently and previously released, are available on the CDMRP website https://cdmrp.army.mil.

Subsequent notifications will be sent when additional funding opportunities are released. A listing of all open CDMRP funding opportunities can be obtained on the Grants.gov website by performing a basic search using CFDA Number 12.420.

Submission is a two-step process requiring both pre-application submission and full application submission.  All pre-applications must be submitted through eBRAP (https://eBRAP.org/).  Full applications from extramural organizations (non-DoD organizations) must be submitted through Grants.gov (http://www.grants.gov/).  Intramural DoD organizations may submit full applications to either eBRAP or Grants.gov.  Refer to the General Application Instructions, Section II.A. for registration and submission requirements for eBRAP and Grants.gov.  For detailed information on the submission process, refer to Section II.D. of the Program Announcement/Funding Opportunity.
