The Department of Defense announces the FY2019 Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellowship competition. The Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellowship is the Department of Defense’s most prestigious single-investigator award of up to $3 million over five years. This is a special program to support outstanding faculty in topics-of-interest to DOD; it is competed intermittently as funding allows. Awardees are generally ~20 years past PhD, have impressive credentials, and address a science/engineering basic research topic of interest to DOD.
The Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellowship (VBFF) program is sponsored by the Basic Research Office (BRO), Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (USD (R&E)). VBFF supports innovative basic research within academia, as well as opportunities intended to develop the next generation of scientists and engineers for the defense workforce.
The Office of Naval Research (ONR) manages the VBFF program for USD (R&E), and publishes the current Funding Opportunity Announcement on Grants.gov (Opportunity ID: 306562). https://www.grants.gov/web/grants/search-grants.html?keywords=vbff
Last year’s funding opportunity announcement for this program can be accessed at https://news.med.virginia.edu/deansoffice/files/2018/06/N00014-17-S-F015.pdf.
