Thank you to all who came out to the recent Town Hall meeting. If you were unable to attend, we discussed some of the emerging themes that the Steering Committee has identified based on the plenary retreat and your SWOT analyses. These include:
• Collaboration: How do we make it more of a reality, whether it’s working with co-PIs on grants, teaching across grounds, or caring for our community?
* Entrepreneurship: How can we be truly creative, innovative and forward-looking? What infrastructures or processes would help us to do more innovation? And how can we reward and incentivize such behavior?
* Elephants in the room: We need to pay attention to the difficult-yet-authentic conversations. The ultimate success in implementing our plan relies on our being honest with ourselves.
* Quick wins: If you see something that can be fixed … fix it. There is no reason to wait. For example, streamlining the process for reimbursement submitted after 60 days by not requiring letters from Chairs.
These are merely the earliest of the emerging themes. It is by no means a comprehensive list.
If your area has not yet submitted a SWOT analysis, please spend some time on this evaluation, as it is important to think about. We have received many from groups and departments and we are using them to assist in determining these types of common themes.
Sincerely,
