Please join me in congratulating Dr. William Petri, Wade Hampton Frost Professor of Medicine, on receiving the Maxwell Finland Award from the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases. This prestigious award is given to a scientist who has made “outstanding contributions to the understanding of infectious diseases or public health,” based on criteria that include “excellence in clinical and/or research activities; participation in the training of future leaders in the field; and positive impact on the health of humankind.”
This honor is especially timely in the COVID-19 era, but deservedly recognizes Dr. Petri’s career contributions to the science of infectious diseases. He has been on faculty at UVA since 1988. A virtual presentation ceremony is scheduled for the evening of Dec. 13.
