In this season of gratitude, I have been reflecting on the remarkable community we have at the School of Medicine and its rich heritage. Since its founding in 1819 as the nation’s tenth oldest medical school, the UVA School of Medicine has remained steadfast in its pursuit of excellence. I am grateful for your efforts to uphold this value through your daily work caring for patients with compassion and expertise and furthering our other missions in research, education, and community.

It has been a privilege to meet many of you these past few months in my role as interim dean. The passion and dedication that all of our faculty, staff, trainees, and students exemplify each day are inspiring to see.

Thank you for choosing to be a part of this School of Medicine community. I am proud to work alongside you as we continue to grow this exceptional institution.

Best wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving,

Colin P. Derdeyn, MD
Interim Dean, UVA School of Medicine
