The 10th Annual Tour de Midnight bike ride, benefiting the Epilepsy Foundation of Virginia, was held October 18 in Rockville. UVA Health was a platinum sponsor of the event, which raised more than $100,000 to help improve the quality of life for individuals and families affected by epilepsy.
Teams of cyclists, runners, and walkers participated in the event, including a UVA Health cycling team organized by Nathan Fountain, MD, in the Department of Neurology. In addition to Dr. Fountain, the team included Colin Derdeyn, MD, interim dean of the School of Medicine, Jeff Elias, MD, interim chair of the Department of Neurosurgery, and Mark Quigg, MD, in the Department of Neurology.
Nearly 85,000 Virginians are currently living with epilepsy. The Tour de Midnight is one of many outreach and advocacy programs organized each year by the Epilepsy Foundation of Virginia to raise awareness and support. November is Epilepsy Awareness Month.
