Last week, the School of Medicine Dean’s Office celebrated the retirement of Bruce Shifflett after 32 years of employment at the University of Virginia. For the past 26 years, Bruce worked for the School of Medicine as a space operations manager and formerly in the central warehouse and mailroom.
Bruce was an integral part of the School of Medicine space management team focused on supporting the maintenance and renovations of all SOM buildings. He assisted with special projects like office and lab relocations, key distribution and lock changes, and served as lead contact for painting projects. He also coordinated vendor relationships with facilities management.
“Over the years Bruce built a wide range of important contacts and relationships with both vendors and the University that were critical to the success of the SOM Space Management operations,” stated Randy Speight, MBA, director of Capital and Facilities Planning at UVA School of Medicine.
Join us in wishing Bruce a very happy retirement. He is looking forward to spending time with his great grandson! We are immensely grateful for his dedication and commitment to the School of Medicine and the University for over three decades.
