The School of Medicine is excited to announce a new school “intranet” is coming soon. This tool will facilitate a central hub for communication, collaboration, and knowledge sharing through features like an events calendar, document repositories, workflows, direct-support IT connection, and HR information for SOM employees. The intranet also will serve as a school-wide communication channel to share important updates and announcements.
Development of the intranet is being managed by School of Medicine IT Director Jeff Schroeder and supported by UVA’s Custom Applications and Consulting Services. Employees will access the intranet through NetBadge, using a computing ID. Departments, divisions, centers, and offices will control access to and update the individual pages on their site as they see fit to improve information sharing and business processes.
The SOM intranet project is being executed in tandem with a SOM external website upgrade led by UVA Health Marketing and Communications. Both the intranet and improved website will provide all of our users—internal faculty and staff and external researchers, students and recruits—a much better user experience.
The SOM intranet is on track to be operational by the end of this year. Departments, divisions, centers, and offices are currently reviewing content and identifying information to place on the intranet. It is an iterative process that allows for each site to grow and adjust over time as each department and center’s needs change.
