Connor Berlin, MD, a resident in the Department of Neurosurgery, recently returned from a volunteer trip to help perform surgeries at Mechnikov Hospital in Dnipro, Ukraine. His experience in the worn-torn country was featured in a NBC News story. Even though the surgical conditions and injuries he treated are unlike anything we’d see in the U.S., he praises the skilled, passionate people who are serving their country and saving lives.
In the article, Berlin says, “They don’t have the fancy things that we have in the U.S., but despite their lack of resources, they still get the job done. They don’t complain; they are very adaptable, impressive individuals. And I’m very inspired by a lot of them.”
UVA Today also recently interviewed Dr. Berlin about his experience and published a story about his volunteer work in Ukraine. Read the story authored by Eric Williamson.
