The Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism hosted the inaugural John C. Marshall Lectureship on Oct. 29, 2024, in Pinn Hall Conference Center Auditorium. The guest lecturer was Griffin Rodgers, MD, director of the NIH National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). Dr. Rodgers’ presentation, titled “NIDDK Support for the Scientific Workforce,” was attended by more than 70 people, in person and virtually. Dr. Rodgers also met informally with trainees and junior faculty from the Department of Medicine to discuss the lecture and other topics related to his career in medicine.

The Lectureship was established in honor of John C. Marshall, MD, following his retirement in 2022. Dr. Marshall is the Andrew D. Hart Professor and chair emeritus in the Department of Medicine and former director of the UVA Center for Research in Reproduction. Dr. Marshall attended the inaugural lecture last week and met with Dr. Rodgers afterward to take a photo in front of the newly installed portrait of Vivian Pinn, MD — the first woman and African American in the School of Medicine Class of 1967 and the person for whom Pinn Hall is named.
