Elizabeth Lyons, MD,
The Charlottesville Ten Miller is the Charlottesville area’s oldest and most prestigious footrace. Many local nonprofit organizations benefit from the funds raised. This year, we’d like to spotlight the efforts of E. Allison Lyons, MD, associate professor in the Department of Medicine, who is running the race on March 28, 2026, to raise funds for the UVA Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hematology and Oncology.
Dr. Lyons’ son was diagnosed with leukemia in 2018 and has relapsed three times. He most recently received chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy for the second time with Daniel Lee, III, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics, on Dec. 10, 2025. She has run the Charlottesville Ten Miler the past three years to raise funds for the Charlottesville pediatric oncology community, raising over $10,000 to date. Dr. Lyons has also faced her own health challenges, so running the Ten Miler and the Philadelphia marathon have been major personal achievements in addition to raising money for pediatric cancer research.
