The Claude Moore Health Science Library (HSL) Hygiene and Food Pantry Pilot Project launched on March 31, 2026, and will run through February 2027. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the HSL Community Arc (strategic planning committee), qMD student organization, the House Staff Community Development Initiative, and the SOM Food Insecurity in Medicine Interest Group. It serves students, trainees, and employees affiliated with UVA Health.
The pantry is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is located in the HSL Cabell Room near the bathrooms. Available items include hygiene supplies—such as period products and deodorant—as well as food, including shelf-stable goods and prepackaged items. All items are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Those interested in supporting the pantry can donate by dropping off items at the HSL service desk in the lobby or by contributing through Amazon.
