Richard H. Whitehead, MD
UVA School of Medicine has added biographies and portraits of all deans to the School’s website. This prestigious list dates back to Richard Henry Whitehead, MD, who served as the first dean from 1905 to 1916. A third of those who held the position were appointed as interim or acting deans. In addition to offering information about these individuals, this text chronicles important initiatives of the school, particularly in the early years.
The Claude Moore Health Sciences Library oversaw the year-long research project and supplied the portraits. Read about the former deans at the bottom of the About the Dean webpage.
