Jeff Elias, MD
The School of Medicine is pleased to announce that Jeffrey Elias, MD, has been appointed as the Interim Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery, effective December 12, 2024.
Dr. Elias brings a wealth of experience and leadership to this role. His expertise will guide the department during this transition period. His commitment to excellence aligns perfectly with our missions to support patient care, educate the next generation of physicians, and manage important research programs. We are excited to see the positive impact his leadership will bring to the Department of Neurosurgery and the broader UVA medical community.
It has been a difficult week for all of us with the passing of Dr. Mark Shaffrey. We deeply appreciate the support from everyone during this time. We acknowledge that many are still grieving and remembering Mark. His contributions to medicine and his leadership have left a lasting impact on all of us. He will be deeply missed by many, and his legacy will continue to inspire us in our work.
