M. Norman Oliver, MD, has been appointed Chair, Department of Family Medicine, effective July 1, 2011
Dr. Norm Oliver will add one more title to his roles of leadership starting July 1st: Chair of the Department of Family Medicine.
Dr. Oliver adds Chair of Familiy Medicine to following list of leadership roles at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.

“I am pleased to announce that Dr. M. Norman Oliver has agreed to serve as chair of the Department of Family Medicine, effective July 1, 2011. Dr. Oliver has outlined goals for innovations to strengthen the department in the areas of UME, GME, clinical operations, and research.
“Dr. Oliver’s research focuses on investigation social determinants of health and how they affect racial and ethnic health inequities. He is interested in the role of factors such as poverty and education on cancer health disparities. He currently is conducting a study to evaluate the effect of unconscious racial stereotypes and implicit bias on the delivery of clinical care. Dr. Oliver brings experience, wisdom, and enthusiasm to his new role, and has established a reputation that has earned him respect and admiration at the national level.
