Congratulations to Douglas Bayliss, PhD, Joseph & Frances Larner Professor and Chair, Pharmacology, on his recent election to the rank of Fellow by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
Each year the AAAS Council elects members whose “efforts on behalf of the advancement of science or its applications are scientifically or socially distinguished.”
Professor Bayliss was specifically recognized for his distinguished contributions to molecular pharmacology, physiology and neuroscience, particularly advancing our understanding of ion channels and their contributions to physiological processes and drug action.
The AAAS also lauded his insightful interest in fundamental scientific questions, his thoughtful stewardship of students’ progress, his administrative acumen and his ability to build institutional consensus.
Dr. Bayliss, along with 400 other newly elected Fellows for 2014, will be honored in February at an annual meeting in San Jose, CA, for their contributions to innovation, education, and scientific leadership. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Bayliss.
