Rachel Moon, MD, the Harrison Distinguished Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, was featured on NPR stations nationwide talking about the elimination of the federal “Safe to Sleep” program.
Launched in 1994, the federal “Back to Sleep” campaign helped save thousands of babies from dying in their sleep, stated Dr. Moon. But now, the administration has shut down the office responsible for leading the program, now known as “Safe to Sleep,” effectively ending the program. Dr. Moon said, “For this to be pulled without any notice and, you know, at a time when these deaths are increasing — is devastating, frankly.”
