Newest School of Medicine Graduates Walk the Lawn on May 18

On Sunday, May 18, the Class of 2025 celebrated an exciting milestone as they graduated from the University of Virginia’s School of Medicine during the 196th Final Exercises. The day kicked off with a celebratory toast in front of the historic Old Medical School. Then the students’ began the iconic stroll from the Rotunda down the Lawn to Old Cabell Hall and concluded with department and program celebrations throughout the day. It was a beautiful day in Charlottesville, and the enthusiasm of students, families, and friends created a joyful atmosphere for this significant occasion. The School of Medicine proudly conferred degrees to 144 MD, 42 PhD, and 55 Master’s students in 2024-25.

The Doctor of Medicine graduation ceremony was held at the Paramount Theater. In her remarks to the medical student graduates, Dean Melina Kibbe, MD, said, “You have chosen a path that is demanding, but deeply rewarding. A path that will challenge you, but also fulfill you. A path where you will make a difference every single day.”

The Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Sciences Hooding Ceremony took place on Sunday at McLeod Hall and the Public Health Sciences Master’s degree ceremony occurred at Culbreth Theater. The graduates shared their special day with family members and other supporters who cheered them on as they received their degrees.
