The Committee on Women in Medicine and Science celebrates Urology Awareness Month this September and is honored to spotlight the work of Nora Kern, MD, an associate professor in the Department of Urology.

Dr. Kern, a pediatric urologist, specializes in treating complex conditions affecting children with congenital abnormalities affecting the genitourinary system. Dr. Kern incorporates advanced robotic surgical techniques into her clinical practice, aiming to enhance treatment precision and patient outcomes. She is passionate about treating children and is a strong advocate for underrepresented minorities. Her top areas of expertise are hydronephrosis, ureterocele, ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction, and urinary tract infection (UTI). Her research interests are focused on hydronephrosis, vesicoureteral reflux, pediatric genitourinary imaging, and quality of care/education.

The Committee on Women in Medicine and Science thanks Dr. Kern for her commitment to providing compassionate and specialized care and for enhancing the quality of life for her young patients. She is a strong, effective woman leader in the field of urology and an asset to her department and to UVA Health.
