The Obesity Medicine Association recently designated Dr. Catherine (Cate) Varney, DO, FAAFP, FOMA, as a Fellow of the organization.

Becoming a Fellow of the Obesity Medicine Association (OMA) is one of the highest honors reserved for those who demonstrate dedication and commitment to the clinical treatment of obesity and obesity-related diseases.

Varney met a list of criteria to become a Fellow of OMA. She has been a member of OMA for 5 years and has received extensive education focused on treating obesity in a clinical setting. She also worked to advance the practice of Obesity Medicine by serving on the Advocacy committee, Bariatric Medical-Surgical and Clinician-in-Training Education committees.

In recognition of her service, she was previously awarded the OMA 2022 Steelman-Seim Educator Award for Excellence in Academics for advancing the field of Obesity Medicine through education and training.

In addition to becoming a Fellow of OMA, Varney is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine, designation held by less than 1% of US physicians.

“I am grateful to receive this honor,” Varney said. “Being a Fellow of OMA allows me to stand out as someone who is passionate about the field and continues to seek new ways to treat obesity successfully.”
