Public Heath Sciences Graduate Student Grant GianGrasso Awarded Rhodes Scholarship

Grant GianGrasso, a graduate student in the Department of Public Health Sciences, was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to study for a doctorate in clinical medicine at the University of Oxford. He is one of 32 Americans selected for the program and the 56th Rhodes Scholar for UVA.

GianGrasso completed is undergraduate degree at UVA as a double major in human biology and French. He studied cryptosporidium, a diarrheal parasite that has a big impact on children in low- and middle-income countries and is continuing to study infectious disease while pursuing a master’s degree in public health.

Along with his academic pursuits, GianGrasso is a trumpet player and stand-up comic. He enjoys these hobbies because they allow him to take a break from everyday responsibilities and maintain a good work-life balance.
