On Thursday evening, September 28, the Committee on Women in Medicine and Science (COWIMS) hosted a fall reception for UVA Health faculty, staff, students, and residents on the Medical Education Building’s second-floor outdoor terrace.

To foster community and encourage networking, COWIMS provided a “bingo game” where guests were encouraged to talk to one another and identify who in the group had specific experiences or goals, such as who is in search of a mentor, has given a national lecture, served on the board of a national committee/association, has attended a women’s leadership conference, etc.

Evelyn Aboagye, Associate Professor of Pediatrics and COWIMS Steering Committee member, impressively won the game by entirely filling in her BINGO card! Second place winner was Róża Przanowska, Research Associate in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Virginia. They each received a gift for their exemplary networking efforts.

Melina Kibbe, MD, Dean of the School of Medicine and Chief Health Affairs Officer, and Professor of Surgery, joined us for the event, as did Susan Pollart, MD, Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Faculty Development and Professor of Family Medicine.

COWIMS is so appreciative of our leader and chair, Kate McManus, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, who provided welcome remarks to the guests.

Alyssa Mixon, DO, MBA, Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Kathryn Xixis, MD, Assistant Professor of Neurology, organized the event in their roles as Co-chairs for the COWIMS Steering Committee’s Programming and Events Subcommittee with the help of Ashley Ayers, Senior Director of Faculty Leadership Programs and Patty Brophy, Education Outreach Coordinator.
