Children’s Fitness Clinic

July 21, 2014 by School of Medicine Webmaster

sportsThe UVA Children’s Hospital proudly announces that the Children’s Fitness Clinic (CFC) is now part of the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology. Appropriate referrals are children ages 6 months to 21 years whose body-mass-indices (BMIs) are passing the 85th percentile. CFC visits will include a medical evaluation, with a complete endocrine evaluation when appropriate, and lifestyle education from weight management specialists.

We are happy to announce that the new CFC team will be Susan Cluett, CPNP (Program Director), Angie Hasemann, RD (Nutritionist), and Christine Burt Solorzano, MD (Medical Director, Pediatric Endocrinologist). The new partnership between the CFC and Pediatric Endocrinology will enable better lifestyle education for all pediatric endocrinology patients and better access to care for children with insulin resistance and early onset type 2 diabetes mellitus.

The CFC now also offers a medical comorbidities clinic for children with obesity-related medical problems. The CFC also plans to increase outreach educational activities such as in-office seminars on engaging patients in early discussions for obesity prevention.

Referrals to the CFC or requests for in-office seminars can be made by calling Jessica Proffitt at 434-924-5956 (fax 434-924-2940).
