A Message from the Chiefs

Chiefs 2013Welcome to Emergency Medicine at the University of Virginia. We believe UVA is one of the best places to train in the country. Set in beautiful Charlottesville Virignia, we are the region’s only level 1 trauma center. We have an extremely large catchment area with patients coming from the Northern Virginia area to the southwest borders of the state as well as bordering states. Our residents consistently rank higher than most programs in patients seen per hour, which prepares us to practice in any environment in the country.

UVA is rich with research opportunities. We are one of 6 federally funded Crash Injury Research and Engineering Network (CIREN) sites in the country, and have an abundance of opportunities available to residents. On a daily basis, we work with nationally recognized educators and experts in the field of emergency medicine.

Charlottesville is an unbelieveable place to live, with ample outdoor activities in the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah Valley, a vibrant music scene, numerous wineries and breweries in the area (we are in the middle of Virginia wine country), a great restaurant and night life scene, and a truly work hard/play hard attitude of our residents and faculty it is tough to imagine training in a better setting.

We are very proud of our program and can’t believe we are already at the end of our residency. We hope that you’ll find our program as great as we do and look forward to you visiting us.
